    New to aerial arts? Want to brush up on the basics? In this mixed apparatus class, we will work on the foundational skills necessary to gain the strength and body awareness to be safe in the air.     Since 2001, the Cabiri has incorporated aerial partnering into our repertoire on a variety of apparatus, with hoop being a commonly-used favorite. In this workshop, we will learn sequences with a partner on a variety of different hoop sizes and configurations, explore spinning with a partner, weight bearing and basing, and simple symmetrical shapes in the air.

    Prerequisites: At least beginner-level hoop experience required, with some tolerance for spinning strongly recommended.

    Spend three days creating an original group piece of choreography on Silks, Hammock, Floor and Invented Apparatus. In this 9 hour block of time, you will examine what it means to be a part of an ensemble as well as a solo artist to build a seamless and effective group presentation. Together we will create a 10-15 minute work that includes partner dynamics, feature solos, synchronicity, tableau building and ensemble support. At the end of the creation process we will publicly present this work. You will leave with a video for personal use as well as photos.

    Prerequisite: At least 2 years of Aerial Experience on Silks, Hammock or Cloud Swing, (comfort moving on the floor is not required, although it is suggested). The willingness to work in a group setting and build synchronized and simple partner work.

    Description: Among the Cabiri’s arsenal of Cool Aerial Things is a Ziplift – a high speed, motorized winch designed specifically for flying aerialists, stunt performers, and dancers through the air with the greatest of ease. In this workshop, we will experience the exhilaration of flying on a high speed winch, talk about safety and preparation for flying on a dynamic aerial point, communication with your winch or movable point operator, and will learn some simple flying sequences on hoop, fabric, and aerial sling. Whether you have a winch or a block and fall or other movable point at home, you will leave this workshop with some new ideas about how to incorporate dynamic vertical points into your repertoire.

    Prerequisites: Solid foundation of aerial skills on at least two apparatus – fabric, sling, or hoop including mounts, dismounts, climbs, and basic locks and wraps.

    Kurdish dancing is a fun, traditional, rhythmic, energetic, hand-holding line dance. Each region of Kurdistan has its own specific folk music, rhythm and corresponding dance steps. Young and old, male and female Kurds will dance together, hand-in-hand, with synchronized steps at weddings, family and neighborhood gatherings and celebrations. Kurdish dance is viewed culturally as a symbol of strength, resilience, pride, and joy. In each class, we will explore a variety of step patterns and rhythms to traditional Kurdish folk songs. Join us every second Saturday of the month to immerse yourself in 90 minutes of starlore. No prior knowledge is expected or necessary. Participants will help determine the course of the next month’s topics. Our first few gatherings will be spent looking at the how the fixed stars have been imagined in various cosmological traditions. Future sessions will include looking into various zodiacs, traditions of planetary magic, and other celestial phenomena and practices. This all-levels class is high energy and is designed to provide a full body workout inspired by circus performer training regimens from some of the highest level circus companies in North America. Our circus boot camp includes cardiovascular training, strength training, and even a bit of circus to keep things fun. Be prepared to work hard and have a great time in this class! Each class includes a guided warm up, small and large group strengthening exercises, and a group cool down and stretch.

    THE LOFT

    In line with The Cabiri’s mission to preserve the mythologies of extinct and endangered cultures, the “Starlore” series of drop-in courses turns our attention to the celestial cosmologies and practices of various cultures, past and present. Join us every second Saturday of the month to immerse yourself in 90 minutes of starlore. No prior knowledge is expected or necessary. Participants will help determine the course of the next month’s topics. Our first few gatherings will be spent looking at the how the fixed stars have been imagined in various cosmological traditions. Future sessions will include looking into various zodiacs, traditions of planetary magic, and other celestial phenomena and practices. This series is taught by Dr Jenn Zahrt, Honorary Research Fellow of Cultural Astronomy and Astrology at the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David.     New to aerial arts? Want to brush up on the basics? In this mixed apparatus class, we will work on the foundational skills necessary to gain the strength and body awareness to be safe in the air. This 90-minute class consists of a thorough warm up geared towards adults, technical instruction on both vertical and horizontal aerial apparatuses including fabric, rope, sling, hoop, and trapeze, and guided conditioning and cool down at the end.
