Marissa Smith has worked with the Cabiri as a student and member of the C2 Apprentice performance company since 2011. Marissa was a competitive gymnast for most of her childhood, and competed at Level 8 in the national and international competitions. The transition from gymnastics to aerial arts has allowed her to develop her performance and dance skills, in addition to learning a variety of aerial apparatuses including aerial silks, aerial hoop and trapeze. In the Cabiri’s 2011 production of Ghost Game: Winternacht, Marissa combined her gymnastic high bar skills with trapeze and pole technique on an invented H-bar apparatus as the bloodthirsty wendigo. Marissa is also a regular instructor and teaching assistant in the troupe’s aerial arts classes.
